Reliable Delivery of Air
Every breath must arrive exactly when it is needed. The AirBoss regulator delivers high-flow air the instant the firefighter pulls for it — whether climbing, crawling, searching, or advancing deeper into the structure. There is no lag. No fluctuation. No second of hesitation. If intentionally disconnected, airflow shuts off automatically to preserve cylinder air. When reconnecting, the non-indexing, 360-degree coupling guides the regulator into place from any angle, sealing quickly even in zero visibility. The result is breathing that feels natural and steady from entry to overhaul — air that responds as hard as the firefighter does.
PSS Air Lung-Demand Valve
Firefighters call it the regulator. At Dräger, it is the lung-demand valve — engineered for instant, dependable response. Dual independent release buttons prevent accidental disengagement under impact or contact. Both must be pressed simultaneously to disconnect, protecting the air supply in chaotic conditions. The 360-degree rotating connection preserves full head movement without binding or torque. Left- and right-hand configurations respect established muscle memory. The LDV behaves the way firefighters expect it to — secure, responsive, and out of the way — so breathing remains instinctive, not mechanical.
Rugged Construction & Materials
Reliable performance is proven after repeated exposure to heat, impact, and abrasion. The AirBoss back frame is engineered to handle drag loads and sustained stress without losing alignment. Harness materials withstand heat and friction while maintaining shape and support. Critical components are protected and positioned to reduce snag risk during rescues and confined movement. Materials are selected not only for strength, but for consistency — ensuring the SCBA feels and performs the same after prolonged use as it did on day one. AirBoss is built to take the beating the job delivers without changing how it behaves.
Proven Technology Platform
Firefighters trust what has earned its place on the fireground. AirBoss is built on decades of Dräger engineering and frontline refinement. Core elements — breathing pneumatics, facepiece design, electronic monitoring, emergency air systems — draw from solutions worn and tested by fire services for years. These technologies evolved through repetition, feedback, and operational demand. Improvements were deliberate. Interfaces refined. Materials upgraded. Performance margins strengthened. But the behaviors firefighters depend on — predictable air delivery, stable fit, familiar operation — were preserved. AirBoss is not an experiment. It is a modern SCBA grounded in a platform already proven.
Redundancy & Safety Margins
When noise, darkness, and distance swallow alarms, redundancy matters. The integrated PASS system combines audible alarms with bright buddy lights visible from multiple angles. Alerts reach the team in more than one way, reducing the risk of missed signals. Electronics operate on either standard AA batteries or a rechargeable pack, adding flexibility and resilience. Communication components maintain independent power sources so one issue does not compromise the entire system. Behind the scenes, continuous self-monitoring provides advance warnings before power drops. Redundancy is not added as a feature. It is built as a safety margin.
Dräger PSS AirBoss NFPA-Certified SCBA
The Dräger PSS AirBoss with Sentinel offers best-in-class ergonomics and is one of the lightest weight breathing apparatus. Insights from firefighters, combined with the latest technological innovations, have led us to design an even safer, cleaner SCBA system that helps you to breathe more easily and for longer.
Muscle Memory
Firefighters build muscle memory over years of repetition — reaching for the regulator in zero visibility, locating a gauge without looking, operating by instinct under pressure. AirBoss is designed to honor those habits, not replace them. Departments can configure regulator placement and gauge routing to match established practice. Hoses stay close to the body to reduce snag risk while preserving freedom of movement. Firefighters do not have to relearn core motions when adopting AirBoss. The system adapts to them, shortening transition time and reducing cognitive load when instinct must take over.
Quick-Adjust, Customizable Fit
Firefighters bring different builds, gear preferences, and years of muscle memory shaped by department practice. AirBoss adapts to that reality. A three-position height-adjustable back frame supports varied torso lengths and balanced posture. Harness straps tighten and release quickly, even mid-operation. Regulator and gauge placement configure to match departmental habits. The system adapts to firefighters instead of forcing new routines, supporting faster adoption and confident movement from the first shift.
Magnetic Charger & Dual Power (Optional)
Power management should not slow a crew down. AirBoss electronics operate on either a rechargeable battery pack or standard AA batteries, allowing departments to recharge when time allows or swap instantly when it does not. The magnetic charging system snaps securely into place and can charge directly from apparatus or station setups without alignment issues or fragile connectors. Electronics self-monitor and provide clear battery status indicators. This flexible architecture keeps the system powered the way the fire service actually works — fast, fluid, and always ready for the next call.
Automatic Head-Up Display
Firefighters should not have to stop or change posture to check their air. The AirBoss Head-Up Display connects wirelessly and automatically as soon as the unit is pressurized — no pairing, no setup, no extra steps. Color-coded LED indicators provide continuous air status directly in the firefighter’s field of view. Brightness adjusts automatically to ambient conditions. Installation and battery replacement are tool-free and intuitive. The HUD keeps awareness automatic and hands-free, eliminating the need to tilt the mask or reach for a gauge in smoke, noise, and movement.
Buddy Lights for Team Awareness
Firefighters rarely work alone. In smoke and noise, crews need to read each other instantly. AirBoss Buddy Lights broadcast air status outward in real time. Blue signals above 50%, yellow below 50%, and red at low air. One glance through smoke tells the team who is stable, who is approaching rotation, and who needs attention. No tapping shoulders. No radio traffic. In a distress situation, Buddy Lights reinforce audible alarms from multiple angles, helping crews locate a downed firefighter faster. Awareness extends beyond the individual — making air management visible to the entire team.
Easy Access Controls for Gloved Hands
On the fireground, there is no time for delicate movements. AirBoss uses large, glove-friendly controls that are easy to locate, distinguish, and activate under stress. The Sentinel display combines pressure, estimated remaining air, and PASS status in one bright, readable interface. Buttons provide strong tactile feedback, allowing firefighters to confirm activation without removing gloves or relying on fine motor precision. Color-coded controls improve recognition in low visibility. Every interface is deliberate, intuitive, and built for real conditions — so interaction stays simple and firefighters stay focused on the fire.
User-Serviceable Design
AirBoss is engineered with a plug-and-play architecture that allows trained personnel to complete most routine service tasks without specialized tools or complex disassembly. Frequently handled components disconnect through intuitive fittings and reattach without guesswork. Modular electronics and accessories mount to standardized hardpoints without opening the pneumatic system. RFID tracking and usage data provide visibility into service history and configuration. The result is controlled, predictable maintenance that keeps SCBAs in rotation and reduces dependency on extended repair cycles.
Tool-Free Assembly & Decon
Serviceability determines readiness. AirBoss harness components break down without tools for fast cleaning and inspection, while sealed pneumatics protect the breathing system during decontamination. Smooth, non-absorbent materials shed soot and moisture rather than trapping contaminants. When paired with Dräger BlueClean — including WashBoss washers and DryBoss drying systems — departments gain a validated, repeatable cleaning workflow that shortens turnaround time and reinforces consistent hygiene standards. Faster decon means less bench time and quicker return to operational status.
